Overview
Zora's House is a non-profit organization based in Columbus, Ohio. The organization provides women and gender-expansive people of color with the space, skills, and strategic connections they need to thrive personally and professionally.
As the organization's Marketing and Communications Manager, one of the first opportunities I took advantage of was the chance to truly ground our communications in data-driven insights through quarterly presentations.
Having existed since 2018, Zora's House had a long and storied history of communicating their critical role in the Central Ohio community, but they hadn't often connected as a team on effectiveness, performance, and learnings from cross-channel communications. This translated into lost momentum and a lack of transparency across teams and job functions on how the org's many events and initiatives were landing with their diverse audience of members, supporters, funders, and friends.
I implemented Quarterly Brand Reviews that continue to drive organizational clarity and transparency across our team. At each review, I talk about a persistent theme for our organization, whether it be weathering sector-wide challenges or testing and learning in order to grow. I follow up these themes with data on each of our communications channels (Meta, email, website, LinkedIn, Youtube).
A team grounded in insights that paint a picture of how all of our audiences are continuously receiving messages about our many initiatives, goals, programs and events.
A deeper understanding of how we're prioritizing each message to activate our audiences at every stage of engagement with the organization, from new observer to engaged advocate.
Shelby’s introduction of our quarterly brand reviews has been transformative for Zora’s House. During a particularly challenging and transitional time federally and within our funding landscape, these reviews created clarity, alignment, and a shared language around how we tell our story. Because of her leadership, we are significantly more efficient and intentional in how we move projects forward and communicate our impact.
